Welcome!
On Constitution Day, September 17, 2005, Delaware's Secretary of State - Dr. Harriet Smith Windsor invited students and teachers to study the Constitution as part of the Department of State's Annual Delaware Day Fourth Grade Competition.
Secretary Windsor challenged students to examine the Constitution, discover information about Delaware's role in the writing and ratification of this historic document, acquire knowledge about Delaware's five signers, and invited them to explain and defend their position regarding the checks and balances system. 785 students and thirty-six teachers, representing fifteen schools from throughout the state, accepted her challenge and prepared informative and artistic four-panel displays featuring original art work, narrative responses to questions, original lyrics to popular tunes, poetry, rap songs, and political cartoons.
Award-winning displays named in honor of Delaware's five signers--Jacob Broom, Richard Bassett, Gunning Bedford, Jr., John Dickinson, and George Read--were exhibited at the State House Museum on The Green in Dover during the month of December. About 750 visitors enjoyed these projects along with a photograph album celebrating the accomplishments of all student entries.
