Lauren Bleakney, a resident of Brandywine Hundred and a rising senior at The Charter of School of Wilmington, recently spent a day with Delaware Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor. Secretary Windsor invited Bleakney to her office in Dover in recognition of Bleakney's recent appointment as Secretary of State during the 2008 Delaware Girls State program, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
Secretary Windsor spoke with Bleakney about the duties of her position and the numerous agencies that constitute the Delaware Department of State. The first woman to serve a full term as Delaware 's Secretary of State, Windsor shared with Bleakney that she, too, had served as the Girls State Secretary of State in high school. In addition to her time with Secretary Windsor, Bleakney attended a press event with Assistant Secretary of State Rick Geisenberger and took tours of the Delaware Public Archives and the Old State House, both of which are under Department of State administration.
