At this time, up to two interns are onboarded for the Delaware Department of State Internship Program each term.

Interns are fully immersed in the day-to-day operations at the Department of State. Intern responsibilities and tasks will vary given the fast-paced nature of state-government.

Interns can work a maximum of 29.5 hours per week. Schedules are flexible. Interns that choose to work four full days will need to leave 30 minutes early on a day of their choosing to match with the available hours.

  • Full Day | 8:00AM – 4:30PM
  • Shifts | 8:00AM – 12:30PM or 12:00PM – 4:30PM

Interns are expected to dress Business Professional throughout the week. Friday’s are observed as Casual Dress day.

All applications are submitted to the DOSinternships@delaware.gov inbox. An Internship Coordinator will be in touch shortly after you submit your application to let you know your documents have been received.

At this time, the Department of State Internship Program is only offered in-person at the Dover office.

All application materials, including the application form, resume, letter of recommendation, writing sample, and cover letter, must be submitted to the DOSinternships@delaware.gov email inbox before the proposed term application deadline. The DOS internship team is unable to consider applications that are incomplete.

A letter of recommendation written by anyone who can speak to the applicant’s qualifications, character, and commitment to their work.

A one-page resume including education, work experience, and volunteer experience.

A cover letter addressed to the DOS Internship Coordinators indicating an applicant’s interest in the program.

A 500-word writing sample. Applicant’s may submit any writing sample that demonstrates their writing styles and ability.
