DOS Internship Program
Summer Term Information
The application period for the Summer Term is now closed. Applicants for the Summer Term are currently under review, and will receive notification from an Internship Coordinator between 5/5-5/9.
ABOUT
The Delaware Department of State’s Internship Program is an exciting opportunity for college students and recent graduates to gain experience in a professional setting, learn more about the policy-making process, and experience state politics at work.
Through completion of the program, interns will gain practical skills that will prepare them for future endeavors in public service.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Each term will be hosted in person at the Dover office (401 Federal Street, Dover, Delaware). Interns will not be able to participate in the DOS Internship Program remotely.
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at college, community college, or university (two-to four-year institution) OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program at college, community college, or university (two-to four-year institution)
- Minimum of 2.5 GPA
- Reliable transportation
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Self-motivated, hard-working, and well-organized
- A passion for public service
INTERNS SHOULD EXPECT TO:
- Work closely with the policy staff to track Department of State legislation, perform research, draft briefing memos, and attend hearings at Legislative Hall. Note: when the Legislature is out of session (between July 1st and December 31st, summer and fall interns will assist in other policy work, including tracking and attending bill signings).
- Work with the communications team to monitor news outlets, assist with press releases, and develop content for the Department of State’s social media platforms and website.
- Attend outreach and community events to spread information and resources about the Department of State and its various divisions.
- Provide general administrative support to our team including archiving documents, greeting constituents, answering constituent inquiries, and assisting in event planning.
- Schedule between 12-20 hours per week.

Fall Term (Sept-Dec) Sunday, August 3rd.
