Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What age range are the FLii interns?
Interns are usually in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year of high school. Usually 15 to 17 years of age.
What is the method of transportation for the interns?
It depends. Some interns drive or are driven to their work location. However, most use public transportation.
Does my agency/department have to pay the interns?
No. Interns are paid stipends outside of your agency.
Can the interns do entry level work?
Yes. However, we ask that they are provided with meaningful work in which they can gain a better understanding of how your agency works to improve the lives of Delawareans.
What do I do if my intern appears to be complacent or has any work-related issues?
Please reach out early to the DOS FLii coordinator at DOS_FLii@delaware.gov for an early intervention and action plan.
Can the interns go to more than one site during a work week?
It is strongly encouraged that interns work at one site during the week. However, if working more than one site during the week will assist your intern in gaining a well-rounded experience at your agency, please communicate with the DOS FLii coordinator to sort out transportation and other accessibility issues. We prefer they don’t, however, if it is needed, transportation must be cleared by coordinators and accessible to your intern.
Can our agency be placed with the same intern as last year’s program?
Yes, so long as the intern agrees to return to your agency.
Can we stay in touch with our previous intern?
Absolutely. Providing meaningful connections to state government is a successful goal of the program.
Can we take our intern to lunch?
Yes, so long as your agency receives approval from the LYTE and DOS FLii coordinator as well as the intern’s caregiver(s) in advance.
Who do I contact if our intern has IT issues?
Please contact the FLii DOS coordinator at DOS_Flii@delaware.gov and your IT specialist to resolve the issue promptly.
Can our agency be placed with the same intern as last year’s program?
Yes, so long as the intern agrees to return to your agency.
